Compleat Restorations
Participates in
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
Compleat
Re storations
recently took part of ABC's Emmy-winning television show Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition. This special project took place less than an
hour from Lancaster, PA.
Compleat Restorations used two Water Out® heat drying trailers and many fans to rapidly dry the
drywall compound and paint overnight so decorating and home furnishing could begin.
The first day on the set: no
buildings yet!
Compleat also took 500 stained and dusty horse show
ribbons back to their Ephrata facility to clean and restore them. The
designers wanted to use the family's ribbons to place into shadow boxes.

If you are one of the few who have never seen the show, the premise is
rebuilding a run-down house owned by a deserving family, who despite their
moderate income works for the betterment of their community.
Within seven days the home is totally rebuilt. It’s a race against
time as similar custom home projects would typically take four months to
achieve. Every single room is drastically made over to exceed the
family’s dreams, including professional decorating. The exterior and
landscaping are also totally re-done. All this is done in 106 hours!
Each
show a surprised
family is sent away on a dream vacation for one week.
The project included 2
barns
built by Paul Risk Associates, Inc.
While the family is gone, builders, excavators, surveyors, plumbers,
electricians, landscapers, masons, dry wall installers, roofers,
carpenters, flooring installers, painters, decorators, specialty craftsmen
and hundreds of volunteers get to work. All services and products are
donated.
It was an amazing project to watch. Hundreds of people working on
different parts of the project at the same time, or they were waiting for
their time slot to go to work. Everyone was on a time table and had a
specific number of hours in which to finish their work. Some volunteers
were driving golf carts running errands, taking drinks to workers,
transporting VIP's. Some were taking inventory of new items to go in the
home, some moved furniture, some cleaned, some helped in the art tent.
Every few hours we would look at the house or barns and they would look
so different than just a few hours ago. Siding or stone had been put on,
or windows installed, or pergolas and trees had appeared out of nowhere --
amazing!

Hundreds of free meals were
provided from area restaurants. This is the volunteer lunch tent.

Spectators
lined the property front day and night.
Watch for
this episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to air on ABC on a Sunday
night in January or February 2008!

Back at the ranch,
Keith and the team went into emergency mode to clean the family's ribbons in
one day.

Lauren helped iron the ribbons...
and finally the 500+ ribbons were done and returned to the grateful
designers.
